In Winnipeg, there is a legend that the city had an informal arrangment with Ginger Snooks, its most famous scavenger, to make a midnight sweep of the alleys behind the Main Street hotels with horse and wagon during the late fall and winter, and to cart the passed-out drunks to the police station.
